Ukraine: At the end of last year, the Ukrainian national operator, known as Ukrzaliznytsia, performed a complete refurbishment of the first diesel locomotive of the series.

As pointed out by the company, mastering this kind of operations is needed to provide transportation, given the failures in the work of the energy infrastructure.

There have been repaired the bogies, brake rigging, air compressor, traction motor, central air system, and other components of the TEP70 diesel locomotive. Ukrzaliznytsia has also produced its own engine silencer, brake rods, and special maintenance tools for disassembly of the vehicle’s junctions and units.

It took the company around four months to prepare for the works and fulfil the refurbishment. Previously, the rolling stock had been overhauled by some private company, not disclosed by the operator.

The mainline passenger six-axle TEP70 diesel locomotives were manufactured in Kolomna, USSR/Russia, between 1973 and 2006. A total 576 such vehicles were produced.
