France — Siemens Mobility has signed a framework agreement with French lessor Akiem for up to 80 Vectron locomotives, with a firm order for 50 units including the new Vectron Dual Mode. These feature catenary and traction battery power with capacity up to 2 MWh. Rated power at rail is 2.4 MW, top speed 160 km/h, and continuous tractive effort 300 kN. Deliveries are scheduled for FY 2029–30.

Brazil — Wabtec has rolled out the first of 26 ES44 diesel locomotives for timber company Arauco Brasil. The project also includes 721 freight wagons from local Randon. The new fleet will enter service in 2027 on a dedicated line linking the Inocência pulp mill to the national network.
USA — Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has issued an RFP for 20 locomotives: 10 bi-mode units with overhead and battery traction, plus 10 Tier 4 diesel locos. Options exist for up to 50 more. The tender is combined with Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), which seeks five battery-electric locos with an option on 23 additional units.

Morocco — CRRC has delivered two six-axle mainline diesel locomotives DO-701 and DO-702 to national operator ONCF. Tested in China before sea shipment to Tangier, they will handle passenger duties on eastern lines linking Fes, Nador, and Oujda, replacing older rolling stock.

Mozambique — India’s BLW has completed delivery of 10 1,067 mm diesel locomotives to the country. The contract was signed in 2023 between Rail India Technical and Economic Service, being the export arm of Indian Railways, and Mozambique Ports and Railways (CFM). Each loco can haul 2,700 t trains at a fuel consumption of 4.5 l/km.
