Indonesia: In July, the first batch of 13 GT38AC locomotives (locally designated as CC205) arrived from the plant in Muncie, United States, at the depot in Bandar Lampung. Following adjustment and set-up, the first two locomotives have entered service.
The GT38AC has been designed for Southeast Asia and Africa. The six-axle locomotive, built to 1,067 mm gauge with an axle load of 18 tf, develops a power output of 1,490 kW and a starting tractive effort of 450 kN. Two GT38AC locomotives can haul a freight train of 61 wagons with a total weight of up to 4,400 t. Locomotives are equipped with two-stroke, eight-cylinder EMD 710G3A diesel engines, which comply with Tier 3 emissions standards and can operate on a blend of 35% biofuel and 65% diesel.

A new order for 54 locomotives was placed in 2024 with a value of $222.4 mln. Earlier, between 2011 and 2021, state-owned operator PT KAI acquired 91 GT38AC locomotives. These units replace the G26MC-2U locomotives built by EMD (now part of Progress Rail) between 1986 and 2008.
