Canada: On its social media platforms, the freight operator Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) has shared a video with the H2 0EL No.1201 (CP 1201) mainline locomotive captured at the hydrogen refuelling station not far from Golden. The vehicle is fuelled from the tank trailer with liquid hydrogen at a pressure of 35 MPa.

The H2 0EL No.1201 is the fourth locomotive converted to hydrogen by CPKC. Since last year, it has been in trial operation in the Canadian province of Alberta, providing services for the mining company Elk Valley Resources.

The vehicle is hauling gondola cars with coal, running between mines in the Elk Valley and the city of Golden. Hydrogen is stored in a special tender wagon designed by HGmotive. The conversion has allowed for the locomotive’s power increase from 3.2 to 4.4 MW.
