India: The vehicle was presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the Dahod site. Another four locomotives are being assembled there.
The 6.6 MW six-axle Co-Co mainline freight locomotive is designed to haul trains of 4,500 t at an average speed of 75 km/h. These D9 vehicles have previously been named the EF-9K. According to Mr Vaishnaw, around 90% of the components are manufactured in India. Siemens’ component production sites participating in the project are located in Aurangabad, Nashik and Mumbai. Final assembly operations are carried out at the former Indian Railways Dahod depot.

The deliveries form part of a 10-year contract signed in 2023 between Siemens Mobility and Indian Railways for 1,200 electric locomotives. The deal is worth INR 260 bln ($3 bln), including 35 years of maintenance.
