India: The video of the first EF-9K single-section electric locomotive, which recently left a manufacturing facility in Dahod, has been published by IADN media. Tests will follow soon.
The 6.6 MW six-axle Co-Co mainline freight locomotive is the result of a major contract between Indian Railways and the German company signed in early 2023. The deal, worth INR 260 bln ($3.2 bln), includes the supply of 1,200 electric locomotives designed to haul trains of 4,500 t at an average speed of 75 km/h.

Assembly of these vehicles is arranged as the national programme Make in India requires. A depot in Dahod, previously owned by Indian Railways and built in 1926, has been selected as the site. The start of locomotive production is expected to create 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.
