Mozambique: The launch ceremony of two locomotives took place at Maputo Central Railway Station in early September. The event was attended by João Jorge Matlombe, Minister of Transport and Logistics.
Each locomotive can reportedly haul 2,700 t trainsets, with fuel consumption standing at 4,5 litre per 1 km. The rolling stock is said to be fitted with components’ technical health diagnostics system.

The contract to supply ten such diesel locomotives was signed in November 2023 between RITES, the export arm of Indian Railways, and CFM, Mozambique Ports and Railways. The locomotives are produced at the plant in Varanasi, India. The supply of the whole batch is due to be completed by year-end.
Estimated at $37.7 mln, the deal is financed by the African Development Bank. RITES reportedly offered the lowest price. Previously, CRRC supplied three diesel locomotives to Mozambique, followed by the launch in late May.
