Belgium: The Series 17 locomotive, built at the Kassel plant, has been delivered to a depot in Schaerbeek of the national operator SNCB. The vehicle will now be tested before it goes into service at the end of the year.
It is the first Traxx electric locomotive designed for such speed. The previous limit was 160 km/h. The 5.6 MW four-axle Bo-Bo locomotive will operate on 15 and 25 kV AC lines and 1.5 and 3 kV DC lines, enabling it to operate on routes in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany.
Alstom and SNCB signed the contract for 50 Traxx MS3 electric locomotives in February 2022. Its firm part, worth €120 mln, provides for the supply of 24 vehicles. Until now, the operator has only leased the platform’s locomotives.
