Ukraine: Bulgarian manufacturer Express Service has delivered the first batch of two three-axle shunting locomotives to national operator Ukrainian Railways. The new rolling stock will be used for auxiliary operations in locomotive depots and container terminals.

The ES3000 model is capable of hauling trains weighing up to 3,000 t at a speed of up to 10 km/h, with a continuous tractive effort of 150 kN. The locomotives are equipped with lithium-ion batteries that support fast charging and enable up to 24 hours of autonomous operation. The ES3000 was introduced into the manufacturer’s portfolio in 2005 and was last showcased at InnoTrans 2024.

The €6 mln contract for the supply of 10 such locomotives was signed in February and is being supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Deliveries are scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, with the operator also set to receive spare parts for routine maintenance.
