Italy: The locomotive manufacturer, CRRC’s subsidiary in Germany, has signed a contract with Polo Logistica, a freight operator within the Italian state railway company FS, to supply eight DE 18 shunting locomotives.
This type of vehicles has proved its efficiency performing shunting operations in Naples and Turin, as well as serving the train ferry crossing between mainland Italy and the island of Sicily.

Four-axle DE 18 locomotives with a capacity of 1.8 MW are designed for speeds up to 120 km/h. They develop a starting tractive effort of 291 kN. Along with diesel, the vehicles can be powered by hydrotreated vegetable oil. Furthermore, the locomotives are equipped with batteries having a range of more than one hour to perform operations in depots and tunnels. Since 2014, more than 130 such vehicles have been procured.
