Kazakhstan: The first two single-section vehicles were officially received at the Mangystau depot of the national operator Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ). Last October, the locomotives rolled off the production line of CRRC’s Dalian plant. In July, they were granted the TR CU 001/2011 certificate with an initial batch determined as 300 units.
The six-axle (Со-Со) diesel locomotive is based on the Fuxing platform and fitted with new Chinese 12V265C engines of 3.5 MW. The fuel consumption is reportedly 198 g/kW·h. The rolling stock can run at a maximum speed of 120 km/h and negotiate curves with a minimum radius of 80 m.

The 2023 contract between CRRC and KTZ provides for the delivery of 100 mainline diesel locomotives. In addition, the parties are considering developing a local production site to manufacture locomotives in Kazakhstan.
The obtained TR CU certificate makes the TE36A potentially viable for the Russian market, given that its diesel engine can surpass modern Russian analogues in terms of fuel consumption.
