China: A video showing the assembly of the vehicles and an interview with Wang Nan, Deputy Director of the Locomotive Development Department at the plant in Dalian has been published by the China Science Communication media outlet.
The new locomotive platform was unveiled by CRRC this summer. Wang Nan said that a modular approach had been applied to the design in line with global practice. It means that the locomotive is made of standard replaceable equipment blocks. The traction can be provided by fuel cells, batteries, an engine and can be a hybrid solution.

The propulsion system can be manufactured in three power values: 1 MW, 1.5 MW, and 2 MW, and the tractive effort can vary from 340 to 510 kN. It is possible to produce a four- or six-axle locomotive in different dimensions.
The relevance of the new platform stems from China’s need to replace about 10,000 locomotives, which will reach the end of their service lives in the coming years.
