Turkmenistan: On 11 June, two vehicles were presented at Ashgabat Railway Station. The national operator Demirýollary received the rolling stock produced by the Chinese manufacturer’s Ziyang plant.

The new diesel locomotives are reported to haul trainsets of up to 6,300 t at a maximum speed of 100 km/h. Each six-axle section is equipped with a modern control system boosting operation efficiency. Yet, it is not unveiled how many locomotives of this model will be delivered in total.

At the beginning of the year, CRRC also completed a major overhaul and modernisation of 20 CKD9C and CKD9A freight diesel locomotives for Demirýollary. The rolling stock had been deployed for 20 years and covered over 2 mln kilometres. The project included repair of key components, such as bogies, diesel engines and electric systems. The locomotives were ergonomically improved and fitted with new-generation intelligent control systems and safety monitoring technologies.

In May 2023, CRRC supplied Turkmenistan with the last two CKD9A-1 units, completing the delivery of 15 two-section freight mainline diesel locomotives under a 2022 contract. Since 2004, CRRC Ziyang has manufactured for Turkmenistan around 300 mainline and shunting locomotives, which are engaged in over 98% of the country’s railway operations.
