Russia: The news on the delivery of vehicles has been spread by the same Bryansk Machine-Building Plant, BMZ.
Six of these locomotives were handed to Russian Railways, RZD, and the operator confirmed the receipt of TEM23 last week. BMZ specified that five units were stationed at the Bryansk-2 depot of the Moscow railway, and another vehicle was delivered to the Oktyabrskaya Railway.
Five more diesel locomotives were supplied to commercial customers in Russia, but the plant doesn’t disclose their names. Earlier, ROLLINGSTOCK reported that several vehicles were produced for Ural Steel, a major Russian steelmaker.
The four-axle two-diesel TEM23 shunter has been manufactured by BMZ to replace another flagship model, the six-axle TEM18DM, which has been in production since 2007. The TEM18 platform itself has been manufactured since 1992. A pre-series of 100 TEM23 shunting diesel locomotives was approved for production in 2022, and series production began last year following the replacement of imported components with locally manufactured ones.
