Germany: A four-axle locomotive powered by hydrogen fuel cells and batteries is presented in Berlin by Vossloh Rolling Stock, part of CRRC.
It has been produced for Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT), which has ordered two vehicles. With a power output of 300 kW and an LTO battery of 160 kW⋅h, the locomotive develops a starting tractive effort of 300 kN.
Based on the Modula platform, the locomotive will be available in three versions: catenary and battery EBB, two diesel engines and battery BDD, and two diesel engines and catenary EDD. While the Modula EBB was unveiled at InnoTrans 2022 and is on display at the fair today as a serial production vehicle, the other versions have not yet been shown anywhere.
Orders for the Modula have already been placed with Vossloh RS by Railpool, Northrail and several other companies. The parent company CRRC exhibited its hydrogen shunting locomotive back in 2021.
