Kazakhstan: The 15-3214 wagon, intended for the transport of petroleum products, was presented to the Qazaqstan Media at the plant in Petropavlovsk. Previously, this type of rolling stock had not been produced in the country.
The four-axle tank wagon has a tank volume of 85.5 m³ and a payload capacity of 69 t. The running gear uses two two-axle bogies 18-9918, developed by ZIKSTO itself, with an axle load of 23.5 tf.
At present, ZIKSTO does not have its own facilities for producing one of the tank wagon’s key components—the tank itself. As reported to ROLLINGSTOCK by the press service of Railways Systems KZ, which owns the plant, the tank for the 15-3214 wagon was produced within the CIS, although the specific manufacturer was not named. “At the same time, ZIKSTO is working on organising its own tank production and is exploring options for acquiring the necessary equipment”, the company stated.
ZIKSTO is currently implementing a large-scale project to create new facilities for expanding freight wagon production. In terms of freight rolling stock, the company has previously mastered the production of container flatcars and gondola cars. In the future, the company plans to establish production of tank wagons, covered wagons, autoracks, gondola cars with increased body volume, and bogies with an axle load of 25 tf. Additionally, in 2026, a foundry for the production of castings from carbon and high-manganese steels, which will also be used for wagon casting, is planned to open in Ekibastuz as part of the Railways Systems KZ cluster.
A similar path is being followed in Kazakhstan by the TEXOL group. At its Atyrau Wagon Factory, equipment is already being procured for the production of tank wagon tanks, and facilities for casting production are being designed.
