Japan: Nippon TV has released a video coverage about the operation of the refurbished seven-car E3 series train. Since late March, the operator JR East has been deploying the high-speed electric set coupled to the ten-car passenger train of series E5.
The rolling stock operates once a day on weekdays and runs between Morioka and Tokyo. With a maximum speed of 320 km/h, it takes the train three hours and 15 minutes to cover the 575.7 km route. The cargo (mainly fresh foods, pharmaceuticals and electronic equipment) is loaded and unloaded at train depots.

The operator began repurposing the withdrawn E3 series train from Kawasaki and Tokyu last year in spring. After removing all the seats to allow for larger cargo space, the interior was equipped with non-slip flooring, guide rails and restraint straps. All seven cars were thus adjusted to transport up to 1,000 boxes and bulk freight. Each car now has a capacity to carry from 10 to 25 trolleys capable of holding up to 120 kg of cargo.
