Slovakia: The Poprad factory has delivered the first two type Samms flatcars to the Slovak Ministry of Defence.
The rolling stock, with a payload capacity of 103 t, will reportedly be used to transport both old and new heavy military equipment, including Leopard 2A4 tanks. Igor Melicher, State Secretary of the Slovak Defence Ministry, has confirmed that other EU and NATO member states will also be able to utilise the railcars under cooperation agreements.
A batch of 13 Samms flatcars has been ordered for Slovakia’s military authority by NATO’s procurement agency NSPA. The remaining 11 railcars are scheduled for delivery in July, six months ahead of schedule.
The manufacturer has indicated that loading ramps, gantry cranes and forklifts can be used to load the 1,435 mm flatacrs, which are ready for installation of the coupling.
