Russia: RM Rail Abakanwagonmash Managing Director Ivan Polyansky revealed these plans in an interview with Khakasia News Agency. “Starting next year, we plan to launch the production of innovative high-capacity dump cars”, he announced. According to Mr Polyansky, the plant is fully equipped with the necessary manufacturing technology.
He did not disclose the specific model slated for serial production but noted it was developed in collaboration with customers, has undergone trial operation, and that potential clients have expressed interest in long-term orders. Currently, RM Rail’s website features three dump car models, with the key innovation being the six-axle dump car 33-1297, developed in 2024, boasting a load capacity of 125 tonnes. A specially designed three-axle bogie 18-1245, with an axle load of 30 tf, was created for this model.
Freight wagon manufacturing is a historic specialization of the Abakan plant. The facility previously produced container flatcars, the first of which was made in 1976. Today, the main focus is on container production, and since 2022 the plant has also been involved in freight car repair. Among upcoming plans is the opening of a service centre dedicated to repairing cassette bearings, with an annual capacity exceeding 5,000 units. The facility is developing in line with previously announced plans: as Ivan Polyansky noted, more than RUB 100 mln ($1.2 mln) have been invested in new capacity over the past two years.
