Egypt: Company representatives announced the plans at the opening of the first phase of an industrial complex in the city of New Borg El Arab, near Alexandria. The project is being delivered by Al Gharably, an Egyptian engineering and construction company.
The new complex covers around 315,000 m², with a stated production capacity of more than 100,000 t of output a year. A 100,000 m² steel structures plant is already operating on the site.
Under the second phase, Tabor Dębica intends to launch a facility for freight wagon production and locomotive repair. The project, provisionally named GTRM (Gharably Tabor Railway Manufacturing), envisages investment of between €25 mln and €40 mln.
The plant is expected to build up to 300 freight wagons a year for Egypt, the Gulf states and Africa. Marian Dybowski, president of Tabor Dębica and Tabor Egypt, said around 40% of output would go to export. The site will employ between 300 and 500 people.
Wojciech Paczyński, an adviser to Tabor Egypt, noted that in the first stage the plant could carry out an overhaul of 30 locomotives. Talks are also under way on the possible modernisation of around 200 diesel locomotives, along with the maintenance and repair of more than 4,000 freight wagons.
Founded in 1993, Tabor Dębica specialises in the production and all types of repair of freight wagons, and also undertakes the modernisation and repair of locomotives and track machines. The company additionally provides rail freight transport and rolling stock leasing services.
