Besco, an Indian railway equipment manufacturer, has signed a contract with Indian Railways (IR) for 800 freight cars, worth INR 3.4 bln ($41 mln). The rolling stock will be delivered in three stages up to the end of 2025. IR had previously ordered 6,700 freight cars from Titagarh Rail and Jupiter Wagons.
DMZ Karpaty, a repair and mechanical plant, will build 300 grain hoppers by order of the US agency for international development as part of the Economic Resilience Activity support programme for Ukraine. According to the company, production capacities will be fully utilised by August. Last year, it built 567 railcars (+5% to 2022), which is more than any other freight car builders in the country.

Galison, a major manufacturer of rail freight cars in South Africa, has signed a contract with the local Lobito Atlantic Railway, a joint venture operating trains in Angola, for the supply of 275 container flatcars. The rolling stock and spare parts will be delivered within 30 months. The vehicles will be manufactured at a plant in Welkom, RSA, from high-tensile steel, which Galison says will reduce their weight down to 13.5 t.
