Brief overview of key events and news in the freight car market.

🇷🇺 GTLK, the State Transport Leasing Company, has signed contracts on 5,100 rail vehicles in 2024. As of today, 2,800 units have already been delivered under leasing. The company doesn’t disclose the types of rolling stock, however freight cars typically account for the main share in GLTK’s backlog. In total, the company has leased 105,000 freight cars to the customers, representing about 8% of the RZD fleet. According to the credit rating agency Expert RA, GTLK accounted for 34% of the entire leasing backlog in Russia’s railway sector.

🇮🇳 The national operator Indian Railways, IR, signed an INR 8.2 bln ($98 mln) contract to supply 2,000 gondola cars to a joint venture of the state companies SAIL and RITES. This year, IR has already ordered 12,000 freight cars from Indian companies Besco, Titagarh Rail, Jupiter Wagons and HEI.

🇹🇷 Türasaş is about to deliver 880 Sggmrs articulated flatcars by the end of 2026. This year will see the supply of 200 flatcars, with 27 recently handed over to the national operator TCDD. Türasaş started producing these flatcars in 2015 and, last year, announced plans to manufacture a record 450 flatcars.

🇦🇺 CRRC sent another batch of 166 gondola cars with a stainless-steel body to the Australian mining company Roy Hill. These will be added to the previous batches, bringing the company’s fleet to 438 cars of this model.
