Overview of events and news of the global freight car market.
Tashkent’s Foundry Mechanical Factory (FMF) has delivered 20 gondola cars of the 12-9922 series to Kazakhstan. This was announced by the national operator Uzbekistan temir yollari, the owner of the factory. It was also mentioned that, over nine months of the current year, the manufacturer exported its products for a total of $2.4 mln. In addition to Kazakhstan, there are Lithuania, Great Britain, and the UAE among FMF’s export destinations, but details are not yet known. Earlier this year, the Uzbek producer claimed to boost export of freight cars and spare parts to $15 mln.

Czech Nymwag will supply 40 SPINA tank cars to a local leasing company VKS. The contract was signed at InnoTrans 2024 in Berlin with the delivery scheduled for the first quarter of 2025. A new family of the SPINA tank cars is designed to transport heavy oil products and chemicals.

The national operator Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) has produced 200 flatcars at its own facilities. The rolling stock is intended for transportation of large containers. The operator states that these platforms will allow for an additional 300,000 t per year to be transported between Ukraine and the EU. Besides, the company plans to manufacture 120 domestic grain hoppers of the 19-8005-U series by the end of the year. This rolling stock will be operated by the Centre of Transport Logistics, Ukrzaliznytsia’s affiliate.

The Krukiv Railway Car Building Works (KRCBW), Ukraine, has delivered first 20 grain hoppers to the national freight operator LTG Cargo. The cars were transported to Lithuania through Poland, overcoming cross-border breaks of gauge between 1,520 mm and 1,435 mm tracks and back. In July, LTG Cargo ordered 500 grain hopper wagons from the KRCBW and Karpaty, Ukrainian car builders.
