Overview of recent contracts and deals in the freight rolling stock market.

China and Tanzania — CRRC has delivered freight cars to Tanzanian and Chinese customers. In November, Tanzania Railways received a batch of 200 container flatcars and 64 box cars as part of a $130 mln order for 1,430 vehicles. China Railway was supplied 182 freight cars, including C70E gondola cars, P70 box cars with a 70 t payload and improved design.

EU — Nymwag of Czechia will deliver 300 tank cars to Ermewa, a European leasing company. The first batch will be handed over in January 2025, with the remainder to be delivered by Q1 2026.

Lithuania — Dnirpvagonmash is a winner of a tender for 200 gondola cars for LTG Cargo, a state-owned Lithuanian freight operator. The contract price is €12.7 mln, or €63,500 per car, and the delivery period is February to April 2025. The vehicles will be used to transport minerals, crushed stone and metals for the construction industry.

Kyrgyzstan — The national operator Kyrgyz Temir Jolu (KTJ) plans to purchase 80 freight cars, according to its deputy head Dastan Usubakunov. Negotiations are underway with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to provide funding for the purchase, he explained. The fleet is being expanded because shippers complain that there are not enough vehicles to export coal.

UK — The construction company Breedon has placed an order with the leasing company VTG Rail UK for 54 JPA bogie cement wagons. The rolling stock will be built by Feldbinder of Germany and equipped with iWagon, a telematics system from Knorr-Bremse and VTG. Delivery is scheduled for January 2026.

Serbia — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has announced a tender for the supply of 50 four-axle S-series container flatcars. The initial price is €4.5 mln, or €90,000 per car. The rolling stock will be capable of transporting 20-, 26-, 30-, 40- and 45-foot containers to be operated by the freight operator Srbija Kargo.

Angola — Galison of South Africa has supplied the first batch of container flatcars to the country. The number of the vehicles has not been disclosed. The flatcars with a payload of 60.5 t will transport one 40-foot or two 20-foot containers. The contract with Lobito Atlantic Railway, a joint venture operating trains in Angola, provides for the delivery of 275 container flatcars by 2026.
