UK: The German component manufacturer and VTG Rail UK, the British division of the leasing company, have signed an agreement for the delivery of at least 2,000 sets of the FreightControl Sentinel system.
The solution will be integrated into both new-build and retrofitted wagons. The value of the contract, valid through the end of 2029, is not disclosed.
The FreightControl Sentinel technology incorporates sensors to control wheel flats, brake condition, vibrations and temperature, and also four axle generators for energy supply and a gateway to transfer the data to a cloud-based server. The solution provides real-time monitoring with the data transmitted to the operator and the driver. In addition, the system can reportedly predict faults.

Along with the FreightLink digital automatic coupler, FreightControl Sentinel is part of the iWagon telematics platform, which is being developed by Knorr-Bremse and VTG. The technology has been tested since 2023. This spring, it was put into commercial service for the first time.
