Germany: At InnoTrans 2024, the Chinese producer and the German logistics company have signed a Letter of Intent on CargoBeamer railcars.
The parties are expected to discuss producing and assembling components for CargoBeamer piggyback platforms in Qiqihar, CRRC’s primary China-based rolling stock production facility.
In Europe, CargoBeamer is developing its intermodal transport solution that uses detachable loading baskets for carrying semi-trailers. Currently, there are four routes handled by company’s six specialised terminals. At the end of 2022, CargoBeamer launched its own car production in Germany.
In the meantime, CRRC is one of the largest freight car manufacturers in the world. The Chinese company sold 33,700 freight cars in 2023, with its sector revenue amounting to more than $2.6 bln.
CRRC has been exporting its freight cars to the EU more than 15 years. It falls marginally under the EU State Aid control due to the significant share of private commission and the lower value of freight car contracts compared to other rolling stock. As of spring 2024, CRRC may allegedly start assembling freight cars in Hungary.
