Kazakhstan: Atyrau Freight Car Building Plant (AVSZ) of TEXOL Group has received certificates of conformity under TR CU 001/2011 for two previously unveiled tank wagon models, the 15-3234 for transporting liquefied petroleum gas and the 15-3237 for petroleum products.
The certificates are valid for five years until the end of 2030. The manufacturer told ROLLINGSTOCK that the 15-3234 tank wagon has an initial production series of 5,000 units, while the 15-3237 will be produced in a run of 9,000.
Both four-axle wagons feature a frameless design, and the 15-3237 is fitted with a tank shell featuring a broken-axis geometry, improving overall performance. The 15-3234 wagon has a tank volume of 88 m³ and a payload capacity of 58 t. The 15-3237 petroleum wagon offers 90 m³ volume and a 70-tonne payload, which TEXOL says is around 4% higher than the closest comparable designs in the 1,520 mm-gauge market.
The wagons are equipped with 18-6786 bogies with an axle load of 23.5 tonnes, developed by TEXOL’s own engineering centre, KazTsTT. Meanwhile, AVSZ is setting up Kazakhstan’s first domestic production of tank shells and bottoms. The service life of the 15-3234 wagon is rated at 40 years, while the 15-3237 is rated at 32 years.
In the Kazakh market, AVSZ’s petroleum tank wagon will compete with RWS Wagon, formerly ZIKSTO, part of Railways Systems KZ. The Petropavlovsk-based manufacturer unveiled its 15-3214 oil product wagon earlier this year. The four-axle wagon has a tank capacity of 85.5 m³ and a payload of 69 tonnes, and features 18-9918 bogies with a 23.5-tonne axle load developed in-house by RWS Wagon. Railways Systems KZ told ROLLINGSTOCK that the 15-3214 was certified for series production in August 2025, but did not disclose details of its initial production run. The certificate was not found in public registers, which is unsurprising since Kazakhstan has recently restricted access to detailed certification data to domestic legal entities only.
