Italy: The German manufacturer has announced the signing of an agreement with Angel Holding on the purchase of several businesses of the MERMEC Group. The latter is a large global player in the market of signalling technologies and diagnostic systems.
The parties have agreed not to disclose the financial terms. Meanwhile, Bloomberg reports, referring to its source of information, that the deal is valued at approximately €1 bln. The transaction is expected to be closed by the end of 2026. Upon completion of all the necessary procedures, Siemens claims to establish its global platform for inspection, monitoring, analytics and maintenance of infrastructure.
As a result of the transaction, Siemens will acquire MERMEC’s key assets covering infrastructure diagnostics, rail signalling, electrification, telecommunications and digital analytics platforms. The businesses have around 1,700 employees and provide services in over 70 countries worldwide. Last year, its revenues reached €430 mln. It should be noted that the transaction does not include MERMEC Deutschland, which joined the MERMEC Group in 2024 after the acquisition of Hitachi Rail’s signalling business in Europe and Asia.
One of the strategic MERMEC’s assets (included into the transaction) is the Matera site of 230,000 m2. The facility focuses on the production of measurement trainsets as well as various systems for infrastructure inspection and rolling stock monitoring. In addition, the deal is reported to open the Italian market for Siemens Mobility.
