India: German engineering company has presented its new single-stage reduction drive at the IREE 2025 exhibition held in Delhi last week.
The part has been developed to meet the technical specifications of Indian Railways, the national rail operator. The drive, featuring a spherical cast housing, weighs approximately 315 kg, including the torque arm.
It is designed for a maximum axle load of 17 t, speeds up to 180 km/h, a nominal motor power of 300 kW, and an input torque of 2,600 N·m.
ZF reports it has already secured initial orders for the new drives. These will be installed on trains of the Vande Bharat platform, with deliveries scheduled to commence in the first quarter of next year.
Under India’s Make in India national programme, production of these parts will be established at ZF’s new facility in Coimbatore, inaugurated in June. Around €20 mln has been invested in the 10,000 m² plant.
