India: The American company inaugurated a 10,000 m² manufacturing campus with 300 employees in Rohtak.
Initially, the facility will produce components for brakes and friction materials for freight cars, metro trains and locomotives, with the national operator Indian Railways, IR, being the primary customer. The project represents a $18 mln investment, with plans to pour an additional $10 million in the future.
Wabtec Passenger Transit, which manufactures components, announced previously that it is eyeing a yearly increase in income from the current $194.2 mln to $303.5 mln from the launch of the new campus in three years. Nowadays, the company owns facilities in Hosur, Bahadurgarh and Baddi, which produce AC systems, pantographs, couplers, doors and other components for the Vande Bharat, metro trains, locomotives and passenger cars. In addition, Wabtec’s plant in Marhowra implements a contract to supply 1,000 diesel locomotives for the IR.
