Spain, Slovakia: The American provider of rolling stock and equipment has recently acquired two companies engaged in production of components.

The first is Fanox. Founded in 1992, the Spanish company focuses on manufacture of electrotechnical products for rail transport and other industries. Specifically, Fanox specialises in electrical relays for motor and generator protection, with over 90,000 medium voltage relays produced in 2022.

One more European company, Kompozitum, has been also acquired by Wabtec. The Slovak manufacturer of components, created in 1990, is recognised for its carbon and graphite solutions as well as metal matrix composites. Kompozitum also produces carbon strips infiltrations for pantograph systems of electric locomotives, high speed trains, and other types of rolling stock.

A combined cost of the two deals is $110 mln. Wabtec states that the acquisitions of Fanox and Kompozitum will strengthen its capabilities in manufacture of specialised relays for trains, and also will improve the quality and competitiveness of the company’s pantographs.
