Germany: The hybrid digital automatic coupler (DAC) has been installed at Alstom’s plant in Kassel. The connecting system has been installed on a locomotive of Akiem, which last year, placed an order for 65 vehicles with an option for a further 35.
According to Dellner, the hybrid DAC allows the locomotive to switch more quickly between DAC and screw coupler, which is of immediate interest in the context of the future transition to DAC in EU countries.

Despite the criticism, the DAC pilot project is expected to be implemented in 2026 on 95 locomotives and 1,600 cars of various types and years of manufacture. At the same time, Dellner has conceded the battle to Voith, whose solution has been chosen as a standard E-Coupler.
