Russia: At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the regional authorities signed a contract with a computer vision developer Cognitive Pilot.

According to the two companies, the first batch of around 20 trams equipped with these systems will be delivered to the Russian city by the end of the year. The contract also includes the provision of the necessary infrastructure.

Cognitive Tram Pilot helps the driver to detect obstacles and automatically applies the brakes if he does not react. The system, which is said to be 80% Russian, will be installed on 47 low-floor trams, which the Ust-Katav Car-building Plant (UKVZ) is building for Yaroslavl under a concession agreement with Movista Regions.

Yaroslavl will be the second Russian city to use trams with this computer vision system. The first is St Petersburg, where the system has been installed on all new trams from various producers since 2022. Moscow began testing its computer vision system in May.
