Russia: Following the completion of acceptance testing and a review of the design documentation, the new asynchronous traction motors, the DTA-170, have been approved for certification, with serial production subsequently commencing.

The company has announced that 2,400 pre-series motors will be delivered for metro cars produced by the TMH plant in Mytishchi.

The preparation for production included manufacture of 28 prototype DTA-170 motors, with the first one produced at the beginning of autumn 2023. TMH has developed asynchronous motors with a squirrel-cage rotor using copper wire. “Compared to the available aluminium wire that is commonly used in such motors, aluminium offers enhanced reliability”, the company explains.

The DTA-170 production is part of a comprehensive programme to expand the production of asynchronous motors at TMH. The programme is being implemented with the assistance of two soft loans, with a combined value of RUB 5.2 bln ($59 mln), provided by the Russian Industrial Development Fund. The company has already obtained certification for the DTA-380 asynchronous traction motor for use in Ivolga trains, the DTA-200T for TEM23 shunting locomotives, and the DTA-125 for EMKA2 shunting catenary and battery-powered locomotives. At the recent INNOPROM, the main industrial trade fair in Russia, TMH has signed an investment agreement with the Rostov region. In accordance with the agreement, the company will invest approximately RUB 4 bln ($45.4 mln) to expand production of locomotive motors.
