Austria, Germany: The German producer has signed a relevant agreement with voestalpine, an Austrian steel and technology company.

According to the terms, Siemens Mobility will increase the share of the Greentec Steel Edition steel in its rolling stock production to 20% compared to 2025.

The steel is reported to generate 70% less CO₂ emissions owing to coke cutting in the melting process and wider use of reducing agents containing hydrogen. In addition, Siemens Mobility is expected to apply even more green steel over the subsequent three years.

The agreement expands the “Green Steel for Bogies” project, which was launched in 2022 at the Siemens Mobility site in Graz, Austria. The company is set to produce around 3,000 bogies annually with an increasing proportion of the low-emission steel. Apart from bogies, the manufacturer uses the CO₂-reduced material in the production of locomotives and passenger coaches.
