Russia: One of the world’s largest aluminium producers has developed aluminium-magnesium-silicon alloy, 1343 series.
The new alloy outperforms another alloy of the same substances, 6000 series, used in the construction of coaches and cars even for high-speed trains. According to RUSAL, the optimised composition ensures a 12–15% higher fatigue endurance and a 5% higher durability.
The Russian high-speed trains will be produced at Ural Locomotives, a plant of Sinara Group. Sinara – Transport Machines has announced plans to produce car bodies using domestically-sourced aluminium, though the supplier has yet to be selected.
The high-speed railway line between Moscow and St Petersburg is scheduled for launch in 2028. In April, Russian Railways placed an initial order for two trains. The parties involved in the project are currently in negotiations regarding the leasing of 41 trains.
