Bulgaria: Next year, the German-Swiss holding company plans to launch a new site in Bulgarian Radinovo. It is expected to replace a smaller plant operating there since 2009. The expansion will result in an increase of production capacities from a current 9,200 to 20,000 m2.

The new facility will likewise specialise in the manufacture of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems for trains, with a main focus on EU countries as the target market.

According to Liebherr, additional assembly capacities are developed to satisfy the increasing market demand. The company is now implementing a large contract for 557 HVAC systems to be installed on the passenger coaches which are currently produced by Stadler for the Kazakh operator Kazakhstan Temir Zholy. There are also Liebherr Group’s facilities dedicated to HVAC equipment production in Germany, Austria and China.
