India: The German company has submitted documents to receive approval for the construction of a new 18.6-hectare facility in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The project will receive INR 19 bln ($212.7 mln) of investments and create around 3,700 jobs. The date of the launch is not yet known.
Once operational, the plant is expected to monthly produce 700 door drive units and 1,000 door leaves for metro cars, regional and high-speed trains. Friction materials for braking systems will also be manufactured there. In addition, the facility will host an R&D centre for the design of braking systems and digital products.
Knorr-Bremse entered the Indian market in 1993. The company’s plant in Faridabad caters for the production of various braking systems, air compressors, dampers, door drive units, and other components for railway and urban transport. Besides, Knorr-Bremse India has a technology centre in Pune and a centre for artificial intelligence, opened in 2025 in Chennai.
