Germany: The solution is based on the LEADER technology, which has been installed on DB Cargo’s locomotives since 2018. Currently, the German freight operator leverages the system on 650 vehicles.
LEADER Flow can be integrated into the control panel or operated via an app on a tablet computer. The new driver assistance system is initially offered for freight trains, but it will also be available for passenger trains in the future.
The solution is reported to analyse the train operational environment, electronic timetable and geodata in real time for further providing driving recommendations. In particular, the system will help to avoid unnecessary braking, acceleration, and downtime phases, as well as keep to the optimum speed.
The LEADER Flow driver assistance system serves to increase energy efficiency, reduce travel time and ensure punctual operation. The six-month testing on DB Cargo’s locomotives has demonstrated energy savings of 10.2% on average and 20–30% at the peak of performance.
