India: A new facility in the state of Odisha is to receive INR 25 bln ($300 mln) in investment to be constructed. This step is aimed at the Indian and Slovak car builders’ JV, Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory, increasing its production from 20,000 to 100,000 forged wheel sets per year.
This news was announced at the renaming ceremony of a plant in the city of Aurangabad, state of Maharashtra. The plant, which is now producing up to 20,000 wheel sets, was bought by Jupiter Wagons from the wheel holding GHH-Bonatrans for INR 2.7 bln ($32 mln) in spring.

Half of the produced wheel sets is to be exported as Tatravagonka is one of the major car builders in Europe, having also a share in Jupiter Wagons, a big player in the Indian market.
India seeks to reduce its dependence on imported rail wheel sets against its industry’s rapid development. Ramkrishna Forgings and Titagarh Wagons are also building another big plant.
