India: The corresponding agreement provides for a 15% share in Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory (JTRWF), a subsidiary of the Indian manufacturer. SIMEST, the Italian state agency for export support, becomes another shareholder with a 10% stake. The combined 25% stake is valued at around €28 mln.
Since 2024, JTRWF has been the owner of the Aurangabad plant in the state of Maharashtra with an annual production capacity of 20,000 wheelsets. The company also plans to launch a new plant with the same specialisation in the state of Odisha in 2027. It will have even greater capacity, at 100,000 wheelsets per year. Notably, the Odisha facility is expected to become the first in India to integrate the production of wheels, axles and wheelsets.
It is worth noting that Jupiter Wagons has already built a long-term business relationship through the JTRWF joint venture with Slovakia’s Tatravagonka, one of the largest European freight wagon manufacturers. This summer, the partners also signed an additional 10-year agreement for the delivery of axles and wheelsets to the Slovak manufacturer’s facilities in Europe.
Lucchini RS is reported to provide technical support in the establishing of JTRWF’s new plant, including the development of a new range of wheels. The Italian company focuses on the production of wheels for multiple units, trams, metro trains, locomotives, freight wagons and track machines. For example, Lucchini RS has equipped Hitachi Rail’s ETR1000 high-speed EMUs, Alstom’s Coradia regional trains, Stadler’s FLIRTs and also Siemens Mobility’s Vectron locomotives.
