UK: The Japanese company has concluded a deal to acquire Omnicom from the international group Balfour Beatty.
The new asset focuses on development of onboard systems to monitor the infrastructure, including the catenary and rail track. The Omnicom systems are reported to be able to detect defects with an accuracy of up to 0.8 mm at the speed of up to 200 km/h. The value of the deal remains undisclosed.
Omnicom’s technical solutions will enhance the functionality of the HMAX digital control and diagnostics platform, which, according to Hitachi Rail, has been deployed on over 2,000 trains worldwide. The company will now be able to offer services such as infrastructure mapping, monitoring of fixed signalling systems, visual inspection of track conditions, and track geometry measurement.
Omnicom was established in 1998, now boasting 100 specialists. Omnicom’s systems are installed on passenger and inspection trains operated in the UK.
