The Turkish manufacturer has inked a contract with Medcom, Poland, to acquire silicon carbide (SiC) traction inverter systems for the trams to be delivered to four countries. In addition, Bozankaya will purchase drives and converters for 100 metro cars scheduled for the shipment to Istanbul.
The Polish motors will be fitted in trams for Serbia, Romania, Türkiye and Italy. Bozankaya’s corresponding contracts envisage the supply of up to 73 vehicles: 25 five-car units for Belgrade, 18 three-car trams for Iași, ten seven-car LRVs for Samsun and up to 20 five-car vehicles for Naples. The tram deliveries for Belgrade and Iași are already on the way.
Previously, Medcom has already supplied Bozankaya with components for trams in Kayseri and Antalya. Moreover, last week saw Bozankaya conclude an agreement on tram motors and traction systems supply with Aselsan, Türkiye. These components are said to be first developed and made in the country for trams. However, it is worth noting that as early as 2018, Turkish company Durmazlar reported achieving full localisation of its trams. The motor was supplied by ELK, the gearbox by Yılmaz Reduktor, the control system by Aselsan, and the bogie was manufactured by Durmazlar itself.
