Russia: This is an adaptation by ROLLINGSTOCK of an article about motors produced by Russian Electric Motors (RED), a Chelyabinsk-based subsidiary of Transneft, published in the parent company’s magazine.
The year of 2019 witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between Transneft and Sinara Group. Aimed at developing and production of asynchronous traction motors of up to 1,400 kW, the agreement led to the expansion of the motors production by RED. Within two years, the company had mastered the production of this type of motors for freight locomotives. These are the ADT1000 for the Malakhit electric locomotives and the TAD430 for diesel locomotives.
One of the priorities today is to prepare for the serial production of the TAD330 for the Lastochka and Finist EMUs, which before used motors from Siemens. The motors will be supplied to Ural Locomotives, the manufacturer of these trains. In addition to high energy efficiency and smaller dimensions, the new motor boasts a motor efficiency of more than 94.8% and a lower weight of 780 kg. The TAD300 enables a train to reach 160 km/h.

The range for passenger rolling stock includes the TAD650, a high-speed asynchronous traction motor. It is a compact motor capable of accelerating a train to 360 km/h. Manufactured in a casing with aluminium parts, it has a low weight of 750 kg. Today, a 3D model and preliminary load calculations have been made and a prototype has been manufactured and is being tested. The first TAD650 will be installed in a high-speed train running on the Moscow–St. Petersburg high-speed line.
To test the motors for passenger trains, RED is now equipping its test centre.
